We were passing through La Junta and wanted to find just a good local place for steak. We found it at Boss Hogg's!! If you want a fancy Morton's like place, this is not it, but if you want a local place with great steak definitely make the trip!! Yes, the salad bar is basic, but the steak was awesome and the service was friendly!! Definitely worth it!!!

The beer was the best part of the evening, had a shock top draft. Waiter was friendly, knowledgeable. Appetizer was Texas Toothpicks, breading was good but also all you could taste. Onions and jalapenos were flavorless, must have been frozen. I ordered a chicken breast that was supposed to have a honey glaze, no honey taste at all just tasted greasy. It was smothered in mushrooms, they were from a can. This was the best part of my meal. Salad bar was sadly wilted, took five minutes of picking through the lettuce to find leaves I wanted to eat. Toppings were just as appetizing. Fresh jalapenos were the most attractive item on the whole bar. Maybe they should be using them in the appetizer too. My fries were so gross, grease sponges, how old the grease these were fried in? One fry I was done with them. Hubby had steak and lobster, he enjoyed both meats. His sides were salad and mac and cheese. Mac and cheese was kind of bland, then really unappetizing after a fly got stuck in it. Rolls served with dinner were stale. Hubby asked for butter was told they only had margarine, food server actually pointed to the dish of butter served with his lobster and said it was margarine. Let's see La Junta is in the middle of farm country and fresh vegetables are a problem. They don't have actual butter. And they don't allow men in sleeveless shirt. Sounds like they are trying to be classy but cheap. Not an evening I want to experience again.

Worst BBQ sauce I ever tasted. I ordered the combo plate....fries were good but the meat was bathed in the worst sauce ever. Had to ask for tea refills. The other three in my party felt the same as me. My wife had a Bloody Mary that she liked. The snake eggs appetizer was good. I would not go back to this restaurant.

Hometown joint with decent food and service. The place isn't up and coming, but for La Junta, give it a try. Salad bar is limited in selection and quality. Not bad though.

The food and service were great. Excellent made from scratch sides and sauces, this BBQ joint is well worth the stop. We tried the BBQ Platter and Chicken Fried Steak special. We cleaned the plates and will definitely be back for more.

This is a generous 1 star. While the service from Chrystal was great ad the beer was cold, the food was just disgusting. Sent back "grilled" chicken as it was cold and undercooked. Came back not grilled but microwaved! Can't even take the time to actually grill the food as described? Sad.

Not the worst place I've been, but definitely problematic. I travel a lot for work so I'm always careful to visit restaurants in smaller towns if it's close to the close time. I showed up to Boss Hogg's at 8:00, 1.5 hours before close. When I showed up, the place was all but empty with only 1 other individual eating in a corner. No problem; smaller towns are usually slow on week nights. Problems started, however, from there. Well, to start and be fair, their mac n cheese was good, and the salad bar and baked potato were okay. Nothing to write home about however. My biggest complaint was my steak. I was told this was their thing (that and their burgers), but my "medium" steak was anything but. It may have been rare, but it was red throughout - mostly dark red with some pink on the out corners. It wasn't even a good cut of ribeye. I couldn't finish. Add to that the disinterested server being ghosted by her high school boyfriend. Bleh. Oh well. At least the potato was warm.

Not my favorite place to eat. They won't let you use A-1 on your stake... The service is "Meh" the food is "meh". They do make pretty decent deserts tho!

LOVE the wait staff. Krystal and Brooklyn are bright, attentive, and charming. A delight to find two such friendly ladies in this town where we knew no one, but now feel we do. There are choices in seating - booths or tables. There is a salad bar in the center of the room (my husband had the salad bar and was very happy with the selections - beets even, yum!). A separate room for large parties. The cozy bar is separated from the dining tables by a tall partition which is good for families with young children. We found the room comfortable, interesting, and lighted just right. Clean bathroom (which you don't necessarily get these days). We ordered a drink from the bar and it came quickly. I had salmon on a ceasar salad (not on the menu but Krystal said it was absolutely do-able). The Salmon had a delicious smokey flavor. My husband had the Catfish and it was crispy, hot and a huge portion at 1 lb! The food came out along with two warm, fresh wheat rolls and soft butter, just as we were finishing our cocktails. Perfect timing! I look forward to coming back next time we pass through, and HOPE that we see Krystal and Brooklyn again! As good as it gets in a small town.

I was traveling across the country with my family just seeing sites and such, and I met up with an Internet friend and his wife in LA Junta, Colorado. We were heading south bound to see the grand canyon. My friend takes me to this little bar/ restaurant called Boss Hogg's. Man was I not disappointed. The rattle snake eggs (bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos) were amazing, local grass fed beef made an amazing steak, and I even tried the rocky mountian oysters (Bull balls). The atmosphere was good, the waitress was nice, the food was supreme. The only thing is make sure you have sleeves on your shirt. For some reason they frowned on that, and I had to buy a shirt.

We are residents of La Junta. We recently went to Boss Hoggs for dinner. We had chicken bites as an appetizer. They are A local favorite consisting of a jalapeno cream cheese and a piece of chicken wrapped in bacon . These creations were very tasty. I wish we would have stopped eating at that point. I ordered a rib eye steak salad bar and a baked potato. Approximately 20% of the salad bar had empty containers. The shredded carrots were closer to brown than orange color, the jalapenos were so old that they had black spots on them relating to age. I would have thrown them out a few days before that and never thought of serving them to the public. My steak looked like something that came out of a box from Walmart. It was supposed to be a 16 ounce ribeye . It was between one half and five eighths of 1 inch thick. And maybe 10 oz. It tasted like processed food.I ate less than 1 /2 of it. We also had a club sandwich which was fine. In summary the salad bar was pathetic lacking selections and some of the selections were outdated and should have been thrown away. The ribeye was a boxed and processed steak that was worth closer to seven dollars then they $16 which I had paid. The service however was very good our waiter was very attentive and did a good job. It will be a long long time before I go back for dinner.

Very good chicken fried steak! Service is always good, food is above average but don't expect it to be great. Just expect it to be better than most places you find in this part of the country.

Boyfriend had the sliced beef sandwich, very tender but didn't care for the sauce. He likes his a little sweeter. Chicken fried steak was wonderful, nice salad bar. Server was very friendly.

I can't say the food is spectacular but its not bad either. They do offer giant cheeseburgers up the 3lbs if you're daring! One thing we found odd is that they don't actually season the food while cooking it. We asked why and the waitress told us it was out of difference to people with allergies. So if you order a burger or anything just tell them to season it while its cooking or else it won't taste all that great! Also most of the time when we go in the service is pretty slow.

Outstanding service even when we came in with a large group. The Beef BBQ sandwich was excellent.
